Drastic Battery/Power Saving Mode?

Post by Kyousuke753 » Fri May 06, 2016 3:48 am

So playing with High Resolution 3D Rendering + Multi-Threaded 3D Rendering turned ON eats your battery very fast and overheats. Turning those 2 options off does kinda help the battery but not much.

Can you please consider adding a power saving mode or fixing the battery consumption usage of Drastic? Other emulators have this feature like John GBA Lite.
From 100% fully charged battery playing Drastic for 4 hours brings the battery to 49%...and I hate charging and playing as it destroys your battery.

I was forced to root and overclock my phone to max 1.2GHz just the premium feature High Resolution wouldn't lag but at the cost of battery life, Because android is slow in performance for long overtime usage.

I turn off all other things on my phone that kills battery like WiFi, Bluetooth and etc. My phone battery is very good until I overclocked it to 1.2GHz...it's still able to hold out for 8-10 hours for heavy tasks like Gaming, Videos and other stuff.

Don't post you should tune down your CPU with the root app, you used to overclock your CPU because High Resolution lags without it

There's nothing broken to fix, there's no sort of option that can make it take any significantly less power. DS emulation is intensive. Several times more so than GBA emulation. High resolution rendering then multiplies that workload by at least twice. I don't know what sort of device you have but if you need to overclock to hit 1.2GHz it must not be very high end. I'm sorry but there are limits to what can be done here.

I spend a lot of time optimizing but at this stage it results in 1% here and 1% and seriously that's if I'm lucky. Like I said before, the only thing that could possibly help efficiency is a different OGL renderer. That's a big maybe, and if it ever happens it'll because of a huge amount of work, not something that can happen as a quick fix.

Other than that all you can do is set frameskip to manual and set the value to something higher than it's already skipping, assuming it's not already maxing it out. That is, if this compromise makes more sense to you than turning off hires rendering.

Thank you for your time and effort put into Drastic Exophase...if nothing can be done past this point then I'll just have to use my phones battery saving full mode and rely on Frameskip to achieve some decent FPS. :D

I apologize for bothering you, I know I shouldn't be gaming on a mobile phone because that's not what was designed for and my phone is my portable gaming device.
