After battle exp cheat doesn't activate - Pokemon Platinum

In Pokemon Platinum, the After Battle EXP Multiplier Codes don't work if I just select it in the cheat menu. Is there a button I need to press to activate the cheat? There isn't any instructions in the cheat menu.

Some cheats do no work untill the game is saved and then reloaded. Save (in-game, not via a savestate) then go to the menu and press reset game and continue as normal and it should work.

I had "Enable Cheats" unchecked in the setting, everything works now.
