Pokemon Black Freezes after N defeats Alder Speech

I just defeated the Elite 4 and made it to Adler and N but after every time N talks to me and says prepare for some Castle the screen goes black. I've tried a soft reboot, redownloading the game, and read several forums of different save and Cgear issues. Can no longer turn C gear off without game freezing either so I'm hoping there's a solution that doesn't involve restarting from the beginning.
