I need a clear explanation for importing save games

OK, I have a .dsv save file that I want to use in my DraStic (bought). I started a save on my ROM, and then saved it. I went into the DraStic/backups folder and deleted the current .dsv file and replaced it with the file I want to use. When I opened DraStic, nothing had happened. I have looked through forums for the past two days but all the explanations seem to be for the old method (data/com.dsemu/DraStic). Can I please have a clear explanation, treat me like I'm 5 years old
