Using of "slot2" funktion

I play Pokemon perl and want to trade pokemon from an oder Edition (emerald) to a newer. I read about the slot2 but i cant make it (i tried a long time). SO MY QUESTION: Can somebody make a tutorial video or can explain it for dummies :?:
