Save States won't load after changing ROM name

When downloading more Roms, I began to tidy up the folder containing the all the ROMs I had downloaded. I changed the name of Pokemon Diamond which was had a 4 digit number at the start. After changing the name of the ROM i could not continue any progress I had on the game.

I then went and tried changing the names of the .dss and the .dsv files connected to the ROM to the same as the Pokemon Diamond Rom now was. This still didn't work. I
then went changing all the files I had changed back, trying to replicate the the way the was before I changed everything this still did nothing.

I'm hoping I will be able to fix this and not have to restart all progress on the game.

Are you sure the .dss and .dsv files have exactly the same name except for the extension? Your file browser might be hiding extensions, or maybe some letters are capitalized differently.
