How awesome would it be to be able to pipe the top screen to a TV via HDMI out and have the bottom screen on the device in full screen? Is this even possible? I assume it would be, considering the Google Video app shows a placeholder screen on the device whilst playing the video over HDMI. Would anyone else find this useful?

Yep, this is something that can be done and we've done some playing around with. Right now it looks like a feature that will require a pretty recent version of Android (Lordus can comment more about this)

Doing this over Chromecast would also be pretty cool.

I wanted to include this feature in the release, but it will probably be enabled soon in an update.
This only works if you have Android version 4.2.2 or higher, though.

Sorry to dig this old post out, but is it yet possible to play via chromecast?

It's already possible via HDMI cable, or Miracast. Chromecast needs to be supported specifically. I might take a look at that and ordered one today.
