The best way to experience DraStic is with a gaming tablet
Imo in theory the best way to play Drastic is with a gaming tablet such as the GPD Q9 or Nvidia shield tablet with the ipega tablet controller. Just imagine. You have a large screen, the form factor lets you manage touch controls because they are right there always in reach. It's like playing a DS in landscape with both screens beside each other. I also imagine you could run dual wide screens which im doing for sonic colors. I understand devices like the GPD XD can play drastic just fine. But when it comes to form factor and actually usability of the emulator a gaming tablet just feels more nature because your hands are beside the screens and not at the bottom. What are you guys take on this?

If there was a "gaming" tablet with a portrait layout then I would probably agree. The issue with the gpd q9 or the xd or jxd 7800 series is simply that they are all set up permanently in the landscape orientation (as far as physical controls go). A minor issue with most of the "gaming" tablets is the use of rockchip processors which can cause issues on some emulators or generally for the price being charged have less performance per clock then some other chipsets.
The shield tablet is...... well just shy of amazing. If Nvidia would have updated it with the 64bit procesor from the shield tv so dolphin emulation would have been possible on the newer builds, then it would have been even better. Still 9.5/10 in terms of performance and at $199 now (without well anything else in the box, no usb cable or charger, or pen, or well anything...), there is no reason to save $20-70 on any of the others (at. $399 vs 179... then there was a decision).
The ipega controllers are kinda mediocre though in terms of quality (building materials, batteries, and durability) and also in terms of perfromance (larger dead zones, some input lag intermittently) and other issues have been well documented.
Personally I do use a tablet to play DraStic. I use a galaxy tab S which I do not recomend for emulators (1440p screen and only 2014 flagship class processor, combine to offer less then steller results on some emulators... others it is fine), but I do highly recomend it for reading and video watching (which I use min for all the time). I also use a controller for high percision games on DraStic, though since high percision controls, low input lag, and good feel/ease of use were important for me (in all emulators) I did not go with a ipega conreoller that would have attached to my tablet but instead I use the Gamestop Red Samurai v2 controller. It works great even on arcade 2d fighters which require near frame acccuracy. I do lose the ability to more easily play TWEWY and the few other DS games that make use of dual control schemes at the same time and require fast percice control of both at the same time, but luckily there are not many of those. Like many of Nintendo's innovative ideas, most games only pay lip service to the gimmick, and on the DS most of my collection is full of RPGs and tactical games with a few puzzles here and there that mostly are not high speed affairs.
Oh to answer your question though I do personally prefer drastic on my tablet even over my nintendo DS due to the much larger screens, better screen quality, many emulator benefits (cheats, savestates, multiple games for 0 extra physical space, others), and simply the fact that my DS only does one thing ( and no those silly day planner carts are not a solution). As far as the best way..... well everyone has personal preferences in both the games they play and personal ergonomics of how those games are controlled, so there are probably no perfect solutions that would work for anyone. But if your lucky there just might abe a perfect solution for you personally if you can find it.

Re: The best way to experience DraStic is with a gaming tabl
I mostly use DraStic in landscape. So me personally a gaming tablet with controls would be perfect for me. As of now im using a dual shock 3 controller and using the mapper tool to play FPS like call of duty and Metroid Prime hunters. It works pretty well. I'd just like to play them on a gaming tab because it eliminates the need to reach towards the screen while having my phone on it's kickstand. Fighting Games like Bleach Dark souls have cards on the touch screen which boost abilities. I never use them because i play in full screen. But on a larger screen i can see myself using them because i have more space to work with.TkSilver wrote:If there was a "gaming" tablet with a portrait layout then I would probably agree. Heres one of my setups in six axis for aiming with my right analog for touch based shooters like Metroid Prime hunters
