How do I use cheats?

This is the only thing I can't figure out. I read the FAQ, Googled it, watched a video...When I click on Cheats it's basically blank and the only thing I can do is exit out cuz there's nothing to input.

Is it because I'm playing Sacred Gold, Drayano's hack of Heart Gold? I mainly wanted x2 EXP so I could level a little easier. But if it's not possible that's fine too.

this is because sacred gold is a ROM hack and therefore not supported in the cheat database by default. on the forums somewhere in this section i placed a custom Usrcheat.dat that remedies this.
