You know, that's the joy of open-source software. If you think he's doing it all wrong, you're free to fork it and make it how YOU think it should be done. Until then, you have no room to complain.

This has happened before, like the Sattelaview emulation LuigiBlood did, and kode54's DirectSound driver updates. They were arbitrary ignored because of the whims of one author. Hence said stuff being flung back: you try to help a FOSS project and you get treated like dirt.

Thing is, Android apps are ridiculously easy to crack. An app can't really tell from where it was installed, and as far as I know the only way for a paid Play Store app to see if it's pirated or not is to use a single API call to check the purchase list from Google's servers.

After decompiling the code, all you would really have to do is ctrl-f for that function and replace it w/ something else.

Though this is how it was a while ago, so Google may have added some things since then. Not that it matters, because someone will crack it anyway.

Well, to be honest, him cracking and releasing this emulator doesn't really matter - someone is going to do it. Someone always does.

Thing is, if enough of the improvements get sent to a fork instead of the original, and the authors of the fork keep pulling the changes from upstream, the fork will get a much larger userbase than the original. See: LibreOffice vs OpenOffice.org.

Piracy is part of it, sure - any Android device can pirate stuff, but only jailbroken iOS devices can. But the real reason is, iOS users are more likely to buy an app. iOS users tend to have more money to do so.

Nobody really cares to enforce it 90% of the time, but copyright infringement is still illegal in most areas.

Anyone who pirated this app and cannot affort $8 does not deserve to use it and they can go back to nds4droid. Hopefuly the next update blocks this patch or hack so it stops this sh*t.

Sure, the next update users will have to wait a while for a crack. But someone will crack it again. Someone always does.

Developers can put thing after thing into an app to try and stop piracy, but it doesn't matter. Studies have shown that 95% of people who pirate apps wouldn't buy it even if a pirated copy wasn't available. They just wouldn't use it. So all stopping pirates does is a) reduce publicity, and b) waste the developers time. Oh, and in the case of annoying DRM like many PC games have, c) make users who would have bought it pirate it instead to avoid the DRM.
