Zipped Roms question
Zipped Roms question
I was wondering whether compressed roms actually save space? I read somewhere that DraStic takes care of zipped roms by itself and unzips it somewhere. Doesn't that mean double the space is occupied? You have the unzipped file somewhere in your storage and DraStic keeps another one which is uncompressed. Is this how it works or am I misunderstanding something?
Re: Zipped Roms question
It only unzips one ROM at a time. So if you play game A then play game B the unzipped A will be replaced by the unzipped B. That means that the time spent unzipping the ROM is saved only for each subsequent time you play the same game, until you play another one.
It's also possible to change this behavior by choosing an option to make ROMs unzip to RAM, but a lot of Android devices don't have space for this. Even some with a lot of RAM. Even if you select this option it'll try to fall back on unzipping to storage if that fails, but it might also fail in ways the emulator can't catch in time so you should really use that option with caution.
