Character blacked out and soft locked in game

Playing SoulSilver, made it about 8 hours or so in game, then when i rolled up to one of the towns, my character and Pokemon following went black with lines across them. I unfortunately saved just after this happened hoping reloading would fix, but it's still happening. Can't open a menu option or go in a building, bc then the game just stops with the music still playing. Is there a fix to this or am I just screwed?
